Wilderness Health Interprofessional Program (W.H.I.P.) Immersion Session

W.H.I.P. introduces health professions students to positive preceptorship experiences in frontier or super rural areas.  These short interprofessional immersion sessions enhance students’ awareness of frontier and rural health issues and increase student interest in practicing at frontier/rural sites.

What: 

2007 Summer Public Health Institute

The 2007 Summer Public Health Institute, offered through the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, provides professionals with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a chosen field of study – for a single day or for three weeks.

The 2007 Summer Public Health Institute has something for everyone practicing in or studying public health or in fields related to public health. Build or expand professional knowledge and expertise, learn best practices, broaden career options, network with other professionals or explore a new area of interest.

Participants can design an educational experience that best advances their own professional goals and interests. Courses can be taken to fulfill requirements for a certificate or degree program or for continuing education credit. Course content emphasizes theory to practice with opportunities for tabletop exercises, field trips, case studies, hands-on labs and simulations.

For : Institute participants have included representatives from public health and other health and human service organizations; city, county, state and federal government agencies; and private sector businesses and companies.

Health Occupations Today- HOT

This 3-day exciting, fast-paced program engages students in hands-on learning, presentations, tours and academic planning.  Northeast Minnesota AHEC works in collaboration with health care facilities and academic institutions throughout the region.

For : 8th-10th grade students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and an interest in a health care career
When:  Iron Range HOT- June 4-6
North Shore HOT- June 11-13
Grand Rapids HOT- June 26-28
Where:  Iron Range HOT- Virginia/Hibbing
North Shore HOT- Two Harbors/Duluth
Grand Rapids HOT- Grand Rapids

What: 

University on the Prairie

University on the Prairie will be an intensive hands-on educational experience in four science-based areas important to the life and industries of Southern Minnesota: healthcare, food science, environmental science and engineering.  Eighty students in grades 8-10 with high aptitude and/or academic achievement from school districts in Southwest Minnesota will be selected from the applicants to participate in the program.
