Preparing Youth for Success in the Health Professions

Dr. Baer discussed ways to prepare youth for success in health occupations. She described current MnSCU healthcare education programming, MnSCU partnerships with K-12 education, and efforts to develop middle and high school curricula for health and long-term care career exploration and training.
Dr. Brandt reviewed the University of Minnesota health professions programs, examples of U of M/MnSCU collaborations, and information on the Allied Health Task Force. She discussed K-12 health careers pipeline trends in Minnesota. She also discussed the admissions process for U of M programs and reviewed action steps to support the educational pipeline, including supporting academic excellence in K-12 and providing positive “last” experiences for health professions students.
