Communications

The Office of Communications is committed to building broad appreciation and active support for the University of Minnesota through the people and work of the Academic Health Center. Our team leads the active management of the communications plan that supports the strategic goals of the AHC. On behalf of the AHC, our office delivers seven areas of expertise:

  • Strategic Communications
    Provides public affairs strategic planning and direction, issues management counsel, and interface with external stakeholders. Supports the AHC deans, services centers, and works to create synergy between departmental initiatives and the overall goals and strategies of the AHC and University as a whole.

  • Public Affairs
    Public affairs staff focus on issues management, and communications tied to the AHC’s legislative priorities at the state and federal level, maintains the AHC and Health Talk and You Web sites and the Medical School administrative Web pages, provides AHC Web support, and publishes the AHC events calendar.

  • Administrative
    This team acts as a central contact point for internal and external inquiries into the AHC. They lead special projects, provide facilities management and financial services, compile and manage data bases, and facilitate the distribution of print and electronic communications.

  • Community Relations
    The Community Relations team coordinates opportunities that support the AHC’s educational, research, and outreach mission (such as Mini Medical School and the State Fair), offers meeting and event planning counsel and staffing; facilitates an AHC Student Engagement Council, assists with legislative advocacy, and helps implement a wide variety of internal and external initiatives.

  • Publications
    Publishes Pictures of Health and AHC News Capsules, and other internal and external communications.

  • Media Relations
    The media relations team works with members of the media, both local and national, to increase visibility of research, enhance the reputation, and highlight the expertise of AHC faculty. They respond to media requests for experts, actively promote AHC research, and provide media relations counsel and training.

  • Creative Agency
    Coordinates AHC graphic standards and produces marketing materials for AHC partners, providing graphic design, writing, editing, Web content, and project management.
