Face to Face Training Course: Psychological First Aid Training Date: Monday, November 23, 2009 Time: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm Place: Mayo Memorial Bldg. Room 3/125 Instructor: Tai Mendenhall PhD All U of M MRC members are strongly encouraged to attend a Psychological First Aid training session in preparation for deployments.The purpose of this course is to equip MRC members to provide psychological support to survivors of critical events (e.g. disasters, accidents, etc.). Training objectives include: - Understand key points of Psychological First Aid (PFA)
- Increase awareness of normal psychological reactions to stress
- Identify of strategies to support resilience among responders
- Identify of crisis communication techniques with individual disaster survivors and disaster workers

Course: Incident Command System (ICS 100.a)Training Date: Saturday, December 5 Time: 10:00 am – 4:30 pm Place: Anoka County Government Center 2100 3rd Avenue Anoka, MN. 55303 Instructor: Lance Ross Refreshments: A light snack and beverages will be provided. Attendees are responsible for providing their own lunch. All U of M MRC members are strongly encouraged to receive incident command system training prior to being deployed. The Incident Command System or ICS is an emergency response framework that is utilized during all MRC deployments. ICS provides a common language among responders and is utilized by first responder type agencies. This training course is sponsored by the Metro MRC Coordinators Workgroup with funds from the Metropolitan Medical Response System Program. The MMRS program supports the integration of emergency management, health, and medical systems into a coordinated response to mass casualty incidents caused by any hazard. Personal & Family Emergency Preparedness http://www.nursing.umn.edu/MERET/MERET_Courses/PFER_module.html The goal of this course is to provide the tools to help you develop your own personal preparedness plan. The course is divided into 6 sections which each take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. If you don’t have a preparedness plan, please take this course. Mass Dispensing Sites: A Primer for Volunteers http://cpheo.sph.umn.edu/cpheo/umncphp/online/home.html#massdisp This training is designed to provide an overview of the general operations of mass dispensing sites and serves as an orientation for individuals who may be asked to work in those sites during an emergency. All U of M MRC members are encouraged to take this 1 hour course. Off-Site Care Facility – An Alternate Care Site: A Primer for Volunteers http://cpheo.sph.umn.edu/cpheo/umncphp/online/home.html#oscf This training provides an overview of the general operations of an off-site care facility (also referred to as Alternate Care Site). Topics covered in this 1 hour course include examples of alternate care sites and the types of emergencies that necessitate their establishment, basic or austere medical care, the concept of the incident command structure as it applies to at such a care site, Standard Precautions, and preparation of the volunteer The National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS): A Primer for Volunteers http://cpheo.sph.umn.edu/cpheo/umncphp/online/home.html#haz This training provides an initial orientation to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS) for individuals who plan to volunteer during an emergency or disaster.
