NEW AHC WEB SITE FOR CLINICAL TRIALS. The AHC is pleased to announce a new web site for Clinical Trials (http://www.ahc.umn.edu/trials). This site displays information about active clinical trials at the University of Minnesota and automates the process whereby potential volunteers may obtain information about participation in current or future clinical trials. There are also links to the NIH resource website about clinical trials.

Any principal investigator may list her/his IRB-approved, active clinical trials so that sponsors and the general public are aware of the clinical research activities taking place at the University of Minnesota. Patients and potential volunteers have access to a listing of active trials. Any individual can volunteer to be contacted by the designated contact person for possible participation in a trial. PIs will be notified of potential volunteers by automated email and will follow-up with these potential volunteers. Volunteers can also request that their name be kept on file and that they be contacted for future clinical trials in specified areas.

For some studies, information about pending clinical trials will already exist in an AHC database. In order to have the trial added to the Active Clinical Trial listing (and, therefore, available for public viewing), the status of the clinical trial must be updated from PENDING to ACTIVE by the PI. E-mail instructions regarding this process will be sent automatically to PIs.
Alternatively, University PIs may list any IRB-approved clinical trial by going to "Submit a New Trial" on the "Trial Personnel Only" page and completing the form. The listing will appear within three days after being reviewed for accuracy and uniformity.

Please support the web site and list all of your active clinical trials.

INCLUSION OF WOMEN AND MINORITIES IN CLINICAL RESEARCH. The NIH has amended its policy on the inclusion of women and minorities in clinical research by updating racial categories, defining minimum standards for collecting data on race, and clarifying rules regarding the design of phase III clinical trials. This information can be reviewed at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/women_min/women_min.htm.
