Health Professions Students and Residents
AHEC Assistance to Health Professions Students: Students may contact AHEC staff for assistance in supporting the transition into their clinical rotation and with assistance in making their stay in the NW MN region more enjoyable. AHEC staff can provide assistance with finding housing, connecting the student with health-care related projects in the AHEC region, making community connections, enhancing the student's rotation through exposure to other health care providers in the community and making the student more aware of activities happening within the community. Students should contact NW MN AHEC staff at AHEC@riverviewhealth.org UMN Summer Internship in Medicine (SIM) and RPAP Programs: AHEC staff are available to support students in connecting with both current and new SIM and RPAP sites within our region. We have helped facilities host their first SIM student and we are available to help students considering NW MN for their RPAP experience learn more about the communities in our region. Job Placement: AHEC staff are pleased to assist graduating students with job search endeavors. The AHEC network can support students by identifying communities within the region with openings for a particular profession; in connecting students with those agencies and in assisting the student's spouse/partner with job search connections both inside and outside of the health care field. Fostering the Health Care Professions: Health Professions students in the region are actively recruited to help AHEC staff with their work in fostering an interest in health care careers among youth in the K-12 school system. Students are also recruited to serve as mentors for undergraduate students preparing for admission to health professions graduate school. Student-to-student mentorship plays a valued role in the AHEC's work in developing the health careers pipeline.
