Health Professions Students and Residents
Discover health care in rural and underserved areas first-hand by living and learning in a community. You'll learn about unique health care systems and factors that influence health in rural or underserved areas. You'll also become part of the community in which you work—a unique experience that offers both personal and professional rewards. Opportunities throughout Minnesota If you're a student in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, public health, or allied health, Minnesota AHEC can help you find community projects and clinical rotations of between one week and nine months. You'll live and work in a rural or urban community that will welcome you with stimulating interprofessional and community outreach activities. Financial support for health professions students and residents on rural rotations Minnesota AHEC offers a partial reimbursement for University of Minnesota health professions students to offset expenses for food, mileage and housing during rural rotations, help in identifying temporary housing, and centralized information on loan repayment and scholarship opportunities. Housing Minnesota AHEC regional staff are available to assist health professions students to identify housing for rotations across Minnesota. Learn more about rural practice in Minnesota The Rural Health Modules provide an interprofessional perspective to rural practice with a focus on rural Minnesota. These modules are recommended for any health profession student doing a rotation in rural Minnesota. Working Interprofessionally Minnesota AHEC supports interprofessional education sites statewide, giving community-based health professionals and health professions students opportunities to implement interprofessional educational practices. The Center for Interprofessional Education promotes interprofessional educational opportunities that advance teamwork and result in improved health care.
