Promoting the Responsible Conduct of Clinical Research

Center for Bioethics - University of Minnesota [clinical research]

Debra DeBruin, PhD, project director, and Jeffrey Kahn, PhD, MPH, were part of a working group of prominent researchers from across the country to investigate effective strategies for teaching the responsible conduct of clinical research.

The study began with an online survey of members of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) who teach the responsible conduct of clinical research. The online survey was followed by more in-depth phone interviews with a number of these instructors. This research was funded by the U.S. Office of Research Integrity of the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Association of American Medical Colleges. The study was completed in the fall of 2005 and results appeared in an article in Academic Medicine.
