Bruce R. Blazar, M.D., Director

Bruce R. Blazar, M.D., is a Regents Professor of Pediatrics, Andersen Chair in Transplantation Immunology, and Chief of the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program. He has directed preclinical basic and translational immunology and stem cell research and early phase clinical studies for more than 25 years, with particular emphasis in the blood and marrow transplantation immunobiology. Dr. Blazar is the Associate Vice President for Clinical and Translational Science and the Director of the University of Minnesota's Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

John E. Wagner, M.D., Co-Director

John E. Wagner, M.D., is a Professor of Pediatrics and Division Director of the Hematology-Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program. He is an experienced clinical investigator in the field of marrow transplantation and has more than 16 years of experience leading phase I/II studies specifically in the area of marrow graft engineering using physical and immunological methods and umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells.

Robert J. Schumacher, Ph.D., Scientific Director

Robert J. Schumacher, Ph.D. is the Scientific Director for the Center for Translational Medicine. Prior to joining the Center for Translational Medicine, Dr. Schumacher directed preclinical and clinical studies in a wide array of therapeutic areas, including CNS, oncology, analgesia, and infectious diseases. His drug development experience ranges from candidate evaluation and selection, through preclinical studies and IND development, to clinical development and the filing of marketing applications. He has also developed regulatory strategies to support drug development programs and has worked directly and effectively with the FDA and other regulatory agencies.

Center for Translational Medicine Scientific Advisory Board

The CTM has a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) with broad AHC representation. It consists of senior AHC faculty who serve as the directors of a diverse array of institutes, centers, departments, and programs.

The SAB reviews, advises and provides guidance on CTM activities. New proposals for collaborations are submitted to the SAB for review and approval. The scientific advisory board also meets to discuss the prioritization of CTM programs, project updates, and interactions within the UMN and with external collaborators.
