This trial is testing an immunosuppressant medication, hOKT3g1 (Ala-Ala) that is combined with sirolimus and delayed tacrolimus for islet transplants in people with type 1 diabetes. Each patient will receive islets from a single pancreas.
Trial #2 "Anti-thymocyte Globulin, Cyclosporine, and RAD in Islet Transplantation"
Current Status: Active
Recruiting Subjects: Active
This is a Phase I/II study designed to assess the safety and efficacy of sequential islet allotransplantation for the reestablishment of stable glycemic control in type 1 diabetic recipients.
Trial # 3 "Anti-thymocyte Globulin, Leflunomide, Etanercept, Rapamycin and Tacrolimus in Islet Transplantation"
Current Status: Pending
Recruiting Subjects: Pending
This is a Phase I/II study designed to assess the safety and efficacy of sequential islet allotransplantation for the reestablishment of stable glycemic control in type 1 diabetic recipients. Maintenance immunosuppression will be with cyclosporine and RAD.
Trial # 4 "ATG, Tacrolimus, and Sirolimus in Islet-After-Kidney Transplantation"
Current Status: Pending
Recruiting Subjects: Pending
This is a one-year, single center, prospective, open-label study of the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of anti-thymocyte globulin, study drug, and sirolimus in type 1 diabetic islet transplant recipients with established renal transplants.
Trial #5 “Evaluation of the Tolerogenic Efficacy of hOKT3gamma-1 (Ala-Ala) and Sirolimus Immunotherapy in Type 1 Diabetic Islet Allograft Recipients”
Current Status: Pending
Recruiting Subjects: Pending
This is a single-center, prospective, open-label study in Type 1 diabetic participants receiving their first islet-only transplant. All participants will receive hOKT3gamma-1 (Ala-Ala) induction therapy followed by sirolimus maintenance monotherapy. In participants who meet the withdrawal eligibility criteria, sirolimus will be withdrawn starting at a minimum of 12 months posttransplant.

Future Clinical Trials
We are currently working on the development of a number of new protocols. We will post information about these clinical trials as soon as it becomes available. If you are interested in participating in an islet transplant clinical trial, we encourage you to enter your information into our database using the clinical trial registration form. Please be aware that we have had tremendous interest in the islet transplant trials, and not everyone who wants to participate will be able to receive an islet transplant.
