About Us

The AHC Office of Facilities and Capital Planning exists to support the mission of the Academic Health Center by creating the physical environment and related facilities support services necessary for world class teaching, breakthrough research and clinical services.  Since its inception in 1997, the office continues to mature in quality and quantity of services provided. Over the last ten years, the office has planned nearly $400 million in capital projects. This effort represents over 490 projects and 3.3 million square feet.

  • 55% of dollars spent were in new construction – 540,000 sf
  • 60% of the projects are in limited remodeling (under $500,000) - $19.6 million
  • 20 predesigns and 6 strategic or master plan studies
  • 51% of the projects were AHC share space; 26% Medical School; 9% Pharmacy; 8% Veterinary Medicine
  • 62% of these capital investments were made in research laboratory spaces; 12% in classrooms

Most of this work is on the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses; however, the office also plans facilities for the Duluth and Rochester campuses.

Organizational development work in 2007 emphasizing alignment with University and Academic Health Center strategic goals produced a comprehensive three-year Work Plan for each of the six service groups in the AHC Office of Facilities and Capital Planning.
