The best time to start preparing for a health career is in high school. Health Career Investigators (HCI) participants have the opportunity to play active roles in learning about health careers that require a baccalaureate degree and/or advanced professional school degree.
The HCI program is a fun experiential program for high school students. Students get to "try on" health careers as they fill cavities, suture wounds, fill prescriptions, all in an effort to learn about today's health careers. Students will also discover the academic background, personal skills, and qualities necessary to be a dentist, nurse, physical therapist, medical doctor, or other health care professional.
The ideal applicants to HCI are those students who are pursuing a college prep track and are taking upper level math and science courses. Students should have aspirations of enrollment at a four year institution.

HCI Spring Edition (for Greater Minnesota)
Session Date: April 21, 2008
This session is open only to students who are residing in Greater Minnesota and are in grades 10 & 11. The student must reside in one of the four sponsoring AHEC regions (see map).
HCI Summer Edition
Session 1: June 10-12, 2008
Session 2: July 8-10, 2008
An application process is required. High school students entering grades 9-12 are welcome to apply.
