What is the AHC?

The University of Minnesota is unique in that it has 6 schools under one administrative umbrella called the Academic Health Center. These schools include College of Pharmacy, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Public Health.  Allied health programs affiliated with the Medical School include occupational therapy, physical therapy, medical technology, mortuary science, genetic counseling, and rehabilitation science

Several of programs are nationally ranked for excellence in academic training and have competitive admissions rates. In addition, the Medical School and the School of Public Health generate substantial amounts of sponsored research funding for the University.

The Academic Health Center educates over 70% of the health professionals in Minnesota and plays a leading role in research and prevention efforts designed to improve the health and wellbeing of those in the state and nationwide. Other initiatives focus on improving health outcomes and addressing health care shortages in rural areas of Minnesota.

Graduates are found in an exceptionally diverse group of settings, including: hospitals, clinics, laboratories, rehabilitation centers, training facilities, community health and human service agencies, veterinary clinics and hospitals, and other health promotion settings. In addition, clinical education and training in the Twin Cities and Duluth is augmented by a vast and diverse array of health and community-based setting.
