A special HCI spring edition open only to students in grades 10 or 11 living in Greater Minnesota.
The Health Career Investigators/AHEC program is a fun, hands-on health careers exploration experience for high school students in Greater Minnesota. The program is hosted by the Health Careers Center on the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus and supported by four regions of the Minnesota Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).
During HCI, students will have the chance to "try on" different health careers and tailor their program experience by choosing from a variety of health career breakout sessions. The breakout sessions will provide a chance for students to dive into the careers of dentistry, medicine, and nursing as well as many of the other health care programs available at the University of Minnesota.

Program Cost
A $35 non-refundable session reservation fee is due upon notification of acceptance into the program. This fee covers our administrative costs of organizing and planning the program and helps reserve your spot in the session. Scholarships are available for qualified participants. Why should I apply for the HCI program?
There are lots of reasons to attend! HCI will give you a real chance to learn more about health careers and the academics that will get you into a health professions school. You will get to know the University of Minnesota campus and meet health care professionals and students.
Who can attend?
HCI is open to any high school student in grade 10 or 11 from Greater Minnesota (outside the Twin Cities metro area) who live in one of the four AHEC regions listed in the map above.
Preference is given to students with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Ideal applicants to this program are high school students who are taking college prep classes, upper-level math and science courses, and plan to apply to a four-year college/university.
Transportation?
You are responsible for your own transportation. Upon notification of acceptance into the program you will receive further details of logistics of the day. Students accepted into the program will be notified by email on March 14, 2008.
Are there overnight accommodations?
No. You are responsible for any overnight accommodations. The Radisson University Hotel is located across the street from Moos Health Sciences Tower. The Days Inn Minneapolis/University of Minnesota is about four blocks away from Moos Health Sciences Tower and the Holiday Inn Metrodome is located across the Mississippi River, on the west bank of campus (approximately 3/4 mile away).
Where is the program held?
The program is held at the Health Careers Center, University of Minnesota. The Health Careers Center is in Moos Health Sciences Tower on the East bank of the Minneapolis campus.
Can my parent or guardian attend the program as well?
Actually, we will have a special program just for the adults (Parents/Guardians/Teachers). Programming will include details on admission to the University of Minnesota, as well as a looking at opportunities and trends in the health professions. There is no additional cost for the parent/guardian or teacher for this program, but advance registration is required.
