College of Pharmacy Ranks Third in Nation

U.S. News and World Report rankings reflect peer reviews of the program

(April 1, 2008) -- The University of Minnesota's College of Pharmacy is ranked third in this year's U.S. News and World Report's ranking of pharmacy programs. The program was ranked fourth in the country last year. The rankings are based upon the results of peer assessment surveys sent to leaders in pharmacy colleges and schools across the country.

"Our third place ranking - which makes us the highest ranked pharmacy program in the Big 10 - reflects the hard work, dedication, and high standards the students and faculty of the College of Pharmacy set for themselves and their colleagues," said Dean Marilyn K. Speedie, Ph.D. "Cutting-edge research by world-renown faculty enhances the excellent education program."

The University of Minnesota has the only college of pharmacy in the state, and offers its Pharm.D. program on both the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. Faculty researchers in the college are known for their expertise in drug design, delivery, therapy, and policy .

The college offers four graduate programs and several post-doctoral fellowships. It enrolls about 640 doctor of pharmacy students in the four-year program and 103 graduate students.

"The ranking of the college among the top in the country further supports our excellent work by attracting outstanding faculty and students," Speedie said. "Every day researchers and students find new ways to improve the health of Minnesotans."

The College of Pharmacy , the only school of pharmacy in Minnesota , offers its program on the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. Founded in 1892, the College of Pharmacy educates pharmacists and scientists and engages in research and practice to improve the health of the people of Minnesota and society. The college is part of the Academic Health Center, which is home to the University of Minnesota 's six health professional schools and colleges as well as several health-related centers and institutes.
