U of M Medical School Hires New Otolaryngology Head

Yueh hailed as accomplished author, researcher and teacher

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (August 1, 2007) — The University of Minnesota’s Medical School Department of Otolaryngology – renowned for its ear, nose, and throat treatment and research – has selected a new head after an extensive national search.

Bevan Yueh, M.D., M.P.H., and an accomplished researcher and author of more than 50 journal articles, will take the position of head of the otolaryngology department September 10.

“Dr. Yueh brings to our Medical School his commitment to care and improvement,” said Deborah Powell, dean of the Medical School. “He is an outstanding clinical researcher who has extensively studied outcomes of treatments. He also is a skilled head and neck surgeon and an outstanding academic leader.”

Yueh also is an award-winning teacher who has been lauded for his ability to mentor students and to take an active role in training residents.

A Minnesota native, Yueh comes from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, director of the Clinical Outcomes Unit, and an affiliate member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Before his work at the University of Washington, Yueh served as the chief of the Otolaryngology Services for the Puget Sound VA. During post-graduate training, Yueh was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Researcher at Yale University and at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he had an internship in general surgery, followed by a residency and fellowship in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

He earned his M.D. at Stanford University School of Medicine and his M.P.H. at Yale University School of Epidemiology and Public Health.
