Mini Medical School

The 19th session of Mini Medical School begins Monday, October 13, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota.  Mini Medical School students will embark upon a five-week exploration into the scientific basis of health and disease in language everyone can understand.  Mini Medical School is an opportunity for community members to experience life as a student in the Academic Health Center and learn from world-class clinicians and researchers at the University of Minnesota.

Mini Medical School faculty members come from varied backgrounds and have a broad range of expertise.  The theme of this series focuses on “Hot Topics in Health.”

Hot Topics in Health

Our world is in the midst of new and complex health care and ethical challenges that arise from natural disasters, war, the infinite possibilities of medical research, and even the food and water supply.  They range from pandemic flu, to battlefield medicine, to food- and water-borne illnesses, to the promise of using stem cells to combat some of our most debilitating diseases.

Join our distinguished faculty members and explore these relevant, hard-hitting, powerful subjects.  These sessions of Mini Medical School promise to be a richly rewarding and superb educational experience.
