Creating a Blueprint: Learning from Nursing Education
Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, FAAN, Interim Dean and Professor, Director, Katharine J. Densford International Center for Nursing Leadership, University of Minnesota School of Nursing

Dr. Disch provided an overview of nursing education in the state of Minnesota and identified some of the challenges nurse educators face.  She reviewed strategies to address both the nursing shortage and the nursing faculty shortage and presented extensive data gathered from surveys on the satisfaction of full-time nursing faculty.  Dr. Disch highlighted the fact that there is an insatiable demand for nursing services.  She stressed the importance of collaboration, presenting the example of the Nursing Educators Forum, a collaborative effort of deans and directors from every nursing program in the state.  One of this group’s goals is to create an integrated approach to nursing education in Minnesota.
