Mr. Salsberg highlighted current national health workforce issues, challenges to forecasting workforce needs, long- and short-term factors influencing workforce supply and demand, and strategies to balance future supply and demand as well as meet future service needs. He emphasized the need for much better data collection and analysis and for building a coalition around workforce issues.
Mr. Fonkert discussed Minnesota’s health industry workforce, noting that health care is a significant industry, accounting for 11 percent of all private sector employees in Minnesota. He presented extensive data on the health care industry in Minnesota, including pay rates, employment by type of business, workforce gender composition, geographical disbursement of health care professionals, age of practitioners, urban/rural concentration of professionals, and vacancy rates for certain occupations.View the Mr. Salsberg presentation
