Can I get one-on-one advising at the Health Careers Center?
The Health Careers Center does not provide individual academic advisement. However, we offer group workshops and information sessions that can help you learn about the academic requirements for University of Minnesota Academic Health Center programs and develop your own “tool kit” for exploring health careers. We work closely with University of Minnesota undergraduate colleges to help provide students with current and accurate academic information. We strongly encourage all students to meet early and frequently with their assigned academic advisers to make sure they are on the right track for completing health program prerequisites and the requirements of their chosen undergraduate majors.
How can the Health Careers Center help me?
We offer information sessions, workshops, credit-courses, special events, and fairs to help student/learners explore academic and career possibilities in health. Our Web site can help you explore career options in health, prepare for application to health programs at the University, and find out about volunteer and internship opportunities that will complement your education and training.
Can the Health Careers Center help me arrange an internship, shadow experience, etc.?
Although we do not arrange individual experiences in clinical settings, we do offer students information through workshops to gain insights and guidance as you plan to “get experience.” Our Web site links you to several resources, as does our annual February HealthWorks fair, which brings dozens of clinical/community contacts directly to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus.
