About Us

Mission: The Health Careers Center creates innovative programs, provides educational services and influences policies that contribute to the holistic development of future diverse generations of health professionals.

Who We Are
Welcome to the Health Careers Center! The Health Careers Center is a specialized career center that helps University undergraduate students, high school students, and adult learners explore health career options, build effective skills and tools for career development, and prepare for admission into health professional programs.

The Health Careers Center represents a partnership between the University of Minnesota’s undergraduate colleges and the programs within the University’s Academic Health Center. We design our programs to meet the needs of diverse students preparing for careers in the expanding and changing health fields. Our experienced and helpful staff members are here to support you in each stage of your career development.

Why We Exist
Several health professions are experiencing rapid change. Demographic and workforce trend data suggest that workforce shortages in the healthcare industry could severely impact the health of the public and the quality of life in Minnesota.

We believe that it is critical to meet these needs and respond to the shortage issue by developing a strong pipeline of professionals entering health careers. If you care about the health of people and communities, work well in a team, and are interested in lifelong learning, we will help you to “aim high” and “aim well” as you explore health-related academic and career options.

What We Offer
We offer a variety of services through information sessions, workshops, credit-courses, special events, and fairs. These resources are offered in small and large group formats. They are designed to:

  • Help individuals explore their career interests
  • Learn about academic and career options in health,
  • Develop skills in writing personal statements, resumes, and interviewing for admission
  • Identify volunteer and internship opportunities
  • Create alternative plans for a health career

Our web site and monthly newsletter, the E-Update, provide current and comprehensive information that will notify you of important events and programs offered by the Health Careers Center, University of Minnesota, and community.

Our office space includes a 24-person classroom, resource library, and computers for student use. Look here for frequently asked questions about the Health Careers Center.

Where We Are Located
The Health Careers Center is located on the second floor of Moos Tower on room 2-565 (near Java City). We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Stop in and pick up brochures and prerequisite information on the different health professional programs on campus!

We also have computer stations available for students to conduct health career research, access electronic advising and locate more information about U of M student programs and resources.

In addition to brochures, handouts, and computer stations, we have an extensive library of resources to help you explore a career in health care, covering a wide range of topics. Come in and explore the wide variety of health careers available, gather information on the different fields, research health care trends, and find out more about graduate programs requirements.
