Using Your ID Badge
Your employee ID badge will be issued to you through your department. Here's how it will work.
-
The Security Coordinator in your department will order your employee ID badge.
-
If you have a U Card and current photo (less than five years old) on file, your existing photo will be used for your employee ID badge. If you don't have a U Card, you need to visit the U Card Office get a card and have your photo taken.
-
Once you have a U Card and a current photo, the U Card Office will produce your ID badge.
-
Your Security Coordinator will pick up your badge when it's ready and will contact you when it is available for pick up.
How It Works
Your participation in the ID badge program is required as part of your employment. The ID badge is designed to help you identify fellow coworkers and employees of other departments within the University. There are a few, simple rules:
-
Employee ID badges must be visible above the waist at all times in required departments.
-
ID badges must be worn by all employees - including student employees, full-time staff and faculty - in offices and secured workspaces, such as laboratories.
-
Guests need to be escorted by an employee with proper ID.
-
If you see someone you don't recognize in your office or a secured workspace, look for an employee badge.
-
If it's an emergency, you can reach the UMPD by calling 911.
-
ID badges cannot be transferred or shared with other employees, or with non-employees.
-
ID badges must be kept current. Your Security Coordinator will make sure you receive a new badge when yours is set to expire.
Lost and Found
If you happen to lose your employee ID badge, notify your Security Coordinator right away. The Security Coordinator will notify the U Card Office and you will receive a replacement badge.
Likewise, if something is lost, it’s eventually found – usually by someone else. If you find a lost employee ID badge, simply return it to Human Resources at the address on the back of the badge.
