GUIDELINES FOR MANDATORY TESTING OF CELL LINES AND OTHER BIOLOGICS PRIOR TO ADMINISTRATION TO RODENTS

  • Rodent blood-products, cell lines and tissues, including rodent tumor cells/tissues must be tested for rodent infectious agents prior to being administered to rodents housed in RAR-managed facilities (ATCC does not test for rodent agents).
  • Non-rodent blood-products, cell lines/tissues which have been passed through rodents or have been in contact with rodent cells/tissues or rodent blood-products must also be tested.

There are three exceptions:

  • Cell lines/ tissues or blood-products that were harvested from rodents housed in RAR-managed rodent facilities of the same or higher biologic status (MPV-negative SPF > MPV-positive SPF > Conventional > BSL-2) as housing of the new recipients do not have to be tested unless they have subsequently been passed through rodents of a lower biologic status or exposed to rodent blood-products of a lower biologic status.
  • Cell lines or tissues that have previously been administered to rodents housed in RAR-managed rodent facilities of the same or higher biologic status (MPV-negative SPF > MPV-positive SPF > Conventional > BSL-2) as housing of the new recipients do not have to be tested unless they have subsequently been passed through rodents of a lower biologic status or exposed to rodent blood-products of a lower biologic status.
  • Cell lines or tissues administered to rodents housed in ABSL-2 housing.
