Assistance by RAR St Paul campus personnel with project related protocols:
RAR personnel may on request assist the PI with projects; however, all matters that are not standard daily maintenance/care will require written agreement (Study Participation Request Form) between RAR and the PI. Example of this requirement include feeding for nutritional trial, special treatments, collecting animal weights, blood or other samples for project data. RAR-CVM will provide assistance but does not take any responsibility for the accuracy of the project's data.
Special arrangements regarding feed and care:
Per Diem and room week charges may be adjusted in accordance with differing feed and care requirements. Inquire with the Manager regarding per diems for such cases as labor/material, intensive care animals with litter, and animals where bedding is not normally used. This is to be arranged before admission of the project. In addition, any special procedures such as bleeding, giving injections, restraint, or transportation of animals or equipment will incur an extra charge.
Charges expressed in room weeks (R/W)
The price listed is the minimum charge. A week is calculated from Tuesday through Monday, or any part of a week is a week. If the corresponding per diem charge (listed by animal) exceeds the minimum R/W charge, a modified R/W charge will be calculated based on the per diem. A two (2) R/W per room charge for conventional Isolation rooms will be assessed at experiment's termination. A R/W per room for specially rooms containing such as: H.B. units, brooders, laying cages, farrowing crates and other specialty cages will be assessed at experiment's termination.
*Note: Large animals used in biomedical research and/or housed in indoor, environmentally controlled, stainless steel/sanitizable type caging/pens will be charged at the Laboratory Animal rates.
RESEARCH ANIMAL RESOURCES INDEMNIFICATION
POLICY
If a mistake or incident occurs that affects or may affect the ability to use an animal or group of animals for the intended research, an investigation as to cause will take place. If the cause is clearly due to error on the part of RAR personnel (eg. mix up of strain of animals, incorrect feeding of special diet), RAR will refund the purchase price of the animals or replace the animals and will refund the per diem charged from the date of purchase until the error was discovered. If the cause is uncertain (eg. animals are missing but unknown who took them, animals left without water bottle but it could have been due to investigator staff error, etc.), then no financial compensation will occur.
In the event of a physical plant malfunction resulting in the death of animals or other damage preventing the use of animals for the intended research, RAR will assist, at no charge, in writing the insurance claim for the investigator(s) but will not be financially responsible for either damages or any deductible in effect. If a billing error is discovered within six months of date of billing (per diem, animal purchase, special services), it will be rebilled or, in the case of overcharge, refunded; if the error is discovered at a later date, RAR will absorb the cost of underbilling.
Appeals or concerns about this policy will be referred to the Assistant Vice President for Research, Academic Health Center.
