Research Resources for Small Businesses

Small medical device and biotechnology companies have limited human capital and financial capital resources. Because of personnel limitations, they often do not have internal expertise across all of the domains relevant to development of their product. Much of the needed research expertise is available within the Academic Health Center. However, the difficulty of working with multiple people and offices within the University often causes small companies to turn elsewhere for assistance.

The RSO is a "one-stop shop" for AHC resources. Your company has a single contact in the RSO who helps to manage all projects within the AHC. This person will help negotiate a master agreement for the entire relationship (project) between your company and the University, as well as any separate letters of agreement with individual faculty investigators or specific University research facilities. In collaborations between your company and the University, confidentiality will always be respected. Intellectual property rights of companies will be protected, while those of the University will also be honored.
