Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center

The Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC) is part of the network of Geriatric Education Centers located around the country. GECs are funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Housed in the School of Public Health, MAGEC is well positioned to create dynamic partnerships between faculty, researchers, elder care professionals, and other experts to provide better care for the aging population. The MAGEC faculty includes professors from several colleges reflecting the interdisciplinary natures of gerontology and geriatrics.

Signature MAGEC events and learning opportunities include our annual Summer Institute and the GEMs (Geriatric Education Modules) featuring presentations by national experts on issues relevant to older adults.

MAGEC consortium members design and deliver learning opportunities geared for their respective locations. The goals of the MAGEC consortium are:

  • To strengthen ties among the member organizations
  • To increase the visibility of each member organization and its activities
  • To facilitate communication between educators, providers, and the general public
