MAGEC
The Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC) is housed in the School of Public Health, and is funded by the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). MAGEC is well positioned to create dynamic partnerships between faculty, researchers, elder care professionals, and other experts to provide better care for the aging population. The MAGEC faculty includes professors from several colleges reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of both gerontology and geriatrics. MAGEC designs and delivers interdisciplinary educational opportunities for eldercare professionals through affiliations with various consortium partners throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Signature MAGEC events include the MAGEC Fellowship, the Distinguished Lecture Series featuring presentations by national experts on older adults, and the annual Summer Institute. PIPP Quality of Life BootcampIn October 2012, the Minnesota Department of Human Services issued the seventh annual request for proposals for the Nursing Facility Performance-based Incentive Payment Program (PIPP), for contracts beginning July 1, 2013. MAGEC partnered with DHS to guide Fellows through the application process. Fellows worked with MAGEC faculty and other experts in the field to create successful PIPP proposals in quality of life improvement for their facilities.
