Are you looking for a way to help optimize the 
health of international students while earning a 
25% tuition waiver through a fun yet rewarding 
learning opportunity?
 
For the 2005-2006 academic year we are looking 
for two international graduate students from the 
School of Public Health to serve as International 
Health Advocates. The graduate student applicants 
must be seeking an MPH, taking a minimum of nine 
credits and not have more than a 25% 
assistantship during fall 2005 or spring 2005. A 
third IHA will be recruited from the 
international undergraduate population. Students 
can expect to devote no more than ten hours per 
week to the IHA program for each semester of the 
2005-2006 academic year. In exchange for services 
provided, the IHAs will receive a 25% tuition 
waiver through the Culture Corps program 
administered through the International Student 
and Scholar Services (ISSS). Applicants must have 
F-1 or J-1 visa status.

Position Description:
The mission of the IHA program is to promote and 
expand the clinical and health promotion services 
of Boynton Health Service to international 
students. Particular emphasis is placed on 
helping international students understand the 
campus health care system and to answer question 
about student fees and insurance.

1.With assistance, IHAs will conduct a health 
needs assessment of International students. 
2.With assistance, IHA will design health 
promotion/prevention initiatives that will meet 
the needs of International students. 
3.IHAs will be expected to have a set number of 
hours in the IHA office at Boynton for 
availability to consult and refer on health 
issues with international students. 
4.Preference will be given to applicants 
available to assist with International 
orientation sessions beginning August 1st, 2005. 
5.IHAs will also be assigned to other tasks to be 
determined.

Applicants may begin registering for fall classes 
before selection decisions are made. It is 
important that anyone who is selected to be a 
2005-2006 International Health Advocate leaves 
his/her schedule open from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on 
Thursdays during fall 2005.
