Summer Research Assistant

The Health Services Research group CCDOR (Center 
for Chronic Disease Outcomes Research) at the 
Minneapolis VA Medical Center has a summer 2005 
through early fall 2005 opening for a Research 
Assistant.  This is a full-time opportunity, but 
a part-time schedule will be considered.     

The Research Assistant will perform work related 
to the acquisition of research information and 
resource materials to support special research 
activities of primarily three Investigators in 
CCDOR.  Specific responsibilities include:

1. Performing library search functions such as 
database, citation, and bibliographic searching.
2. Collecting the references from the VA library 
or University of MN libraries.
3. Performing literature reviews.
4. Summarizing information reviewed and writing 
abstracts.
5. Using bibliographic software (Reference 
Manager) to manage references and create 
databases.  
6. Providing general support to Investigators.

Topics these Investigators are working on 
include tobacco use and cessation, post-
traumatic stress disorder and other mental 
health disorders, and shared decision making for 
medical care.  

Requirements include:
• Candidates must be returning to school in the 
fall.
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or 
other health-related field.
• Experience in literature searches, reviews, 
and summarization of information. 
• Strong organizational ability, effective 
written and verbal communication skills, and 
ability to work as a team player.  
• Ability to travel between the VA Medical 
Center and the University of MN campus.  
• Preference given to individuals pursuing a 
master’s degree at the School of Public Health.
