opening for a Graduate Assistant (description 
below).

Graduate student position available
 
Research Assistant for .25 FTE (10 hours per 
week) to assist in community-based mental health 
survey with Latinos in South Central Minnesota.  
The position will be supervised by U of M Powell 
Center for Women’s Health faculty and staff.
 
Responsibilities:
-Serve as liaison between Centro Campesino and 
University research team, including weekly 
updates to the Powell Center for Women’s Health.
-Work with Centro Campesino, a Latino grassroots 
organization, to manage survey data, ensure data 
integrity and track the consent process.  This 
may require bi-weekly travel to Owatonna and 
collaboration with the Centro Campesino’s Health 
Promoters staff.
-Work with faculty, research staff and Centro 
Campesino to document the community-based 
research process (successes and challenges).  
-Participate in interpretation of survey data 
results, especially related to gender.
-Assist in preparing survey findings for 
publication and/presentation.  

Preferred qualifications:
-Must be current U of Minnesota graduate or 
professional student and registered for 
coursework during the academic year
-Conversational fluency in Spanish
-Graduate coursework related to community health
-Experience working with Latino, rural, women or 
other underserved communities 
-Strong interpersonal communication skills 
-Detail oriented with strong organizational 
skills 

Other skills:
-Experience with survey research
-Experience with mental health research or 
services

Length of position:
August 2006- December 2006 (renewable by 
semester through June 30, 2007)

Salary/Benefits: 
Salary based on GA salary range.  Travel costs 
will be reimbursed.  Tuition benefits included.
