Qualifications/Experience:
The Division of Epidemiology and Community
Health, Tobacco Policy Research Team seeks a
first year Public Health graduate student who
has interest in prevention policy. We are
looking for someone who can demonstrate
initiative, independence, attention to detail
and ability to work as a team player. Good
computer skills, including familiarity with
Microsoft Office software and Internet research
is required. Experience with Microsoft Access
and FileMaker Pro is desired. Excellent verbal
and written communication skills and good
organizational skills are also important.
Job Duties:
The graduate student will 1) review websites and
community newspapers to identify/categorize and
code articles relating to tobacco control and
prevention, local tobacco laws and policies,
youth tobacco use, and the tobacco industry; 2)
contact cities and counties in Minnesota to
gather local tobacco control ordinances; 3)
monitor and track tobacco policies and proposed
legislation at the state level for Minnesota and
four comparison states; 4) conduct an annual
mailing to schools on school tobacco prevention
curricula; 5) track other study-related data
such as consumer price information, and 6) enter
detailed data into database forms.

Job Begins: On or about Oct 2, 2006.
Job Ends: Spring 2008.
Work Schedule: Flexible hours/days, 25% appt,
10 hrs/wk.
Payment: $15.71, $20.10 or $24.47 per hour
based upon highest degree earned.
