Employer: University of Minnesota

Location: Mpls. West Bank, Minnesota

Date Posted: 07/27/2007
Expiration Date: 08/31/2007

Degree Required: Bachelors
Major: Epidemiology

The Division of Epidemiology & Community Health
is in need of 3 teaching assistants (TAs), each
with 25% time of support, for the new
Epidemologic Methods IV course during the fall
semester of 2007. Two TAs will work with Prof.
Jian-Min Yuan and the remaining one with Prof.
Lyn Steffen for their Epi Methods IV sections,
respectively. The class of Dr. Yuan’s section
will meet from 1:25 to 3:30 pm each Monday and
Dr. Steffen’s on Thursdays from 1:25 to 3:30pm.
The course is primarily for MPH students and is
designed to integrate the concepts and methods
of epidemiology and data analysis with real
data. The activities of the class include data
management and analysis of data from cross-
sectional, case-control, and cohort studies. The
course will help students to develop critical
thinking and form a testable hypothesis for a
research question. By using real study datasets,
students will learn the skills in data analysis;
interpretation and presentation of study
results; summarization and draw conclusion; and
writing relevant sections of a study report.

Responsibilities of a TA include attending
lectures, grading homeworks, exams or projects,
and holding office hours. A potential TA will
need to have a good knowledge of SAS
programming, be familiar with some data
management and analysis methods in SAS, and have
completed at least the old Epi II course.

Compensation will be based upon established
Division policies.
