About Rainbow Research, Inc.
Rainbow Research, Inc. was founded in 1974, 
incorporated in 1978 as a Minnesota nonprofit 
organization, and is recognized as tax-exempt 
under IRS Code 501(c)(3).  The organization is 
based in Minneapolis, and works throughout 
Minnesota and the United States. Rainbow 
Research is nationally recognized for its 
innovative work in the action research, 
evaluation and capacity building fields. We are 
a diverse staff of eight. 

Our mission is to help socially concerned 
organizations become more effective in their 
efforts to build healthier, stronger, and more 
vital communities.

Projects include formative and summative 
evaluation and outcome studies often employing 
participatory methods, community and 
organizational development studies, feasibility 
studies, community capacity assessment and 
strategic planning with a wide range of non-
profit organizations covering a range of 
subjects.

Responsibilities:
Under supervision of Research Associates and the 
Executive Director, assist in the following:  

Basic tasks: 
•	Conducting literature reviews and 
internet searches
•	Collecting data using a variety of 
quantitative and qualitative methodologies, e.g. 
focus groups, surveys, interviews, scales/tests, 
observation and analysis of available records
•	Coding data and performing data entry
Advanced tasks:
 •	Assisting with proposal/grant writing
•	Developing, testing, and piloting data 
collection tools
•	Developing databases
•	Performing qualitative and quantitative 
statistical analyses
•	Summarizing research finding and writing 
reports

Qualifications:  Second year graduate student in 
one of the social or behavioral sciences, 
education, public health or public 
affairs/administration; has completed some 
course work in research methodology and 
statistics and/or program evaluation; proficient 
in written and oral communication and in 
Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, 
and; experience using SPSS, SAS or other 
statistical analysis software. Previous research 
experience and employment in the not for profit 
sector is desirable. 

Terms:  Flexible hours: 15 - 20 hours a week, 
more or less as projects require.

Salary/Wage:  Competitive, comparable to 
graduate assistantships.
