25% TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION

We are seeking a 25% time Research Assistant for a
new research project that is being conducted 
jointly by researchers in the Division of 
Epidemiology and Community Health, the Division of
Environmental and Occupational Health, and Carver 
County Public Health. The goal of the project is
to develop and pilot test a program for small 
manufacturing worksites that integrates worker 
safety and health promotion (i.e., smoking 
cessation). 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Primary duties will be to conduct literature 
searches that will inform the development of the 
intervention; to help with the development of 
intervention materials; to assist in the conduct, 
analysis and write-up of focus groups and 
one-on-one qualitative interviews with key 
stakeholders to assess intervention components; 
and other duties, as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate student currently enrolled in a Masters
degree or PhD in the School of Public Health (SPH)
or students currently enrolled in other degree 
programs who have completed a degree in the SPH.
• Completion of at least one semester in an SPH 
degree program.
• Completion or current enrollment in a core 
Environmental Health course (PubH 6101 or PubH 
6102) or equivalent course work or experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to 
work with representatives from manufacturing 
worksites.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability
to meet deadlines.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Good computer skills (word processing, Excel, 
internet applications).
• Has a reliable means of transportation for the 
performance of work responsibilities.  The 
qualitative data collection and many of the 
project meetings will take place in Scott and 
Carver Counties.
• No affiliation with the tobacco industry for the
last ten years.
• Non-smoker.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of an SPH behavioral science core 
course (PubH 6050 or PubH 6020) or equivalent.
• Experience conducting focus groups and analyzing
qualitative data.

This position is contingent upon enrollment and 
current registration as a graduate student at the 
University of Minnesota.
