GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT POSITION
1 Position, 25% Time
Fall Semester 2008 (08/25/2008 - 01/07/2008)

PubH 6600, Global Reproductive Heath (online)


The purpose of this ONLINE course is to examine 
reproductive health issues, programs, services, 
and policies in developed and developing 
countries. The course content will emphasize 
social, economic, environmental, behavioral, and 
political factors that affect family planning, 
reproductive health, fertility, and pregnancy 
outcome. The course will have three areas of 
focus: (1) interventions and programs to improve 
reproductive health; (2) the measurement and 
interpretation of reproductive indices (within 
nations and globally); and (3) policies that 
affect reproductive health (with an emphasis on 
global policies and funding).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:    
1) Monitor the discussion board every weekday and 
provide written responses to students’ comments 
about course materials and questions about the 
class.
2) Maintain the technical aspects of the online 
course (e.g., post grades online, load assignments
and readings).  
3) Grade student assignments.
4) Assist instructor in preparing materials for 
class.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
1) Successful candidates will be graduate students
working on a Masters degree or PhD in the School 
of Public Health. 
2) A strong preference will be given to applicants
who have previous experience with TA’ing online 
courses. It is especially important that the TA be
comfortable with the technical aspects of 
maintaining an online course and has experience 
with online course instruction logistics.  
3) The TA must have superb writing skills. At 
least half of the position will involve responding
to student written inquiries. It is imperative 
that the student have the skills to correspond 
with graduate students.  
4) It would be helpful to have a TA who is 
interested in global reproductive health, as 
reading the course materials (and helping the 
instructor guide the students in their reading) 
will be necessary.  

POSITION LOCATION:    
The instructor (Wendy Hellerstedt) is at 1300 
South Second Street, Suite 300 (WBOB). There will 
be occasional meetings with the instructor, but 
much of the work will be conducted online.  


COMPENSATION:    
Current hourly pay rates for teaching assistants 
in the School of Public Health are-

         $16.22 for those with bachelor’s degrees
         $20.75 for those with master’s degrees
         $25.27 for those with doctoral degrees

current registration as a graduate student at the
