STUDENT SERVICES FIELD EXPERIENCE ASSOCIATE GRADUATE ASSISTANT POSITION DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities: The Field Experience Associate
will work with Career Services staff to maintain
and develop the field experience website,
including overseeing the message board; posting
and responding to the FAQs; reviewing and
selecting suitable blogs, posters, and photos to
be posted in the website. Other tasks include,
but are not limited to:
1. Help to implement a pre and post
interactive field experience assessment tool to
help students determine a field experience
opportunity that will maximize their learning
objectives:
- Map the interdisciplinary competencies to
courses
- Map the different field experiences to the ASPH
competencies
- Link the results of the assessment to the
suitable field experience opportunities;
2. Plan presentations by students who have
completed both international and domestic field
experiences to educate others on how to find and
fund their own field experiences;
3. Respond and answer student, preceptor, and
faculty advisor concerns and questions about field
experience;
4. Consult with students individually about their
field experience questions as needed;
5. Network with employers and agencies to find
possible field experiences and preceptors;
6. Search for opportunities from the other career
sites in the University;
7. Research funding opportunities - especially
for international field experiences;
8. Follow up with past preceptors to build and
maintain relationships;
9. View and implement suggestions and comments to
improve the field experience web site;
10. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Registered as a FT graduate student during the
2008 – 09 academic year, preferably second-year in
the SPH.
2. Familiar with the public health academic
program, preferably completed an international
field experience.
3. Fluent on Microsoft Office applications.
4. Ability to work independently and in a team
environment.
5. Excellent written and oral communication
skills; comfortable public speaker.
6. Detail-oriented; proven ability to follow
through on projects.
7. Experience designing, implementing, or
maintaining websites.
8. Innovative, outgoing, enthusiastic.
9. Must be available to work 16-hours/week (flexbile hours), October 15th - January 6th.
