The Colorado Health Foundation (TCHF) has a
vision that Colorado will be the healthiest state
in the nation. In pursuit of that goal, TCHF
works collaboratively with grantees across
Colorado, focusing on three specific goals:
• Encouraging Healthy Living
• Increasing the number of Coloradans with Health Coverage
• Ensuring access to quality, coordinated Health Care
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive
Officer, the Vice President of Philanthropy is a
key member of the Executive Team with
responsibilities for establishing and
implementing outcome based strategies and
providing leadership to the Foundation’s
Philanthropy team. The Vice President will manage
the philanthropic investment portfolio and serve
as the creative leader for new grants and
investments. S/he will be charged with innovating
new ideas for both investment and collaboration
with existing partners and new ones. In the
future, TCHF will invest around $80 million
annually in the state and the Vice President will
be responsible for ensuring these funds are
invested in programs that have the greatest
impact in the three areas of focus: Health Care,
Healthy Living and Health Coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Vice President will provide executive
leadership in coordinating a dynamic, matrixed
department consisting of 15 employees. The Vice
President responsibilities will include the
following:
Transformative Grant Making
• Lead the investment strategy and oversee the
research to identify partners and programs that
can make Colorado a healthier state.
• Apply investment and grant-making principles to
aggressively advance the Foundation’s goals in
the three strategic external programs of healthy
living, health coverage, and health care.
• Propose and manage a dynamic, philanthropic
investment portfolio that represents a breadth of
investment strategies, including mechanisms for
funding start-up organizations, structures
combining grant and loan funding, and overseeing
program-related investments.
• Identify strategic opportunities and
efficiencies not currently deployed in
philanthropy.
Organizational Leadership
• Work creatively and strategically with the
Executive Team to ensure the organization works
with purpose, vitality, and relevancy.
• Collaborate with the Investment Analyst, Senior
Program Officers and other business partners in
identifying opportunities to maximize TCHF funds
by investing in philanthropic programs.
• Serve as a mentor, guide and coach to
Philanthropy team.
• Set expectations and provide leadership to the
Philanthropy Team for building strong community
partnerships and collaborating with colleagues
across the Foundation.
External and Board Relations
• Manage the activities of the Board’s
Philanthropy Committee according to TCHF’s
strategic community outcomes.
• Establish and broaden national relationships
with businesses, government, nonprofits, and
other foundations.
• Convene and communicate with partners and
grantees to share knowledge, achievements,
progress and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in
health policy, public administration, business
administration or similar field.
• A variety of professional experiences including
a total of fifteen years in grantmaking, non
profit, and business.
• Proven track record of identifying
opportunities and managing the funding of
philanthropic programs, business strategic
planning, budgeting and staff development.
• Solid grasp of strategic mission investing,
with the ability to work with grant seekers
reflecting a wide range of financial
sophistication.
• Managed groups responsible for informing and
educating a highly diversified audience on
complex issues, organizational goals, programs,
and outcomes.
• Success in leading, mentoring, and developing
high-performance teams based on creativity,
strategic thinking, risk taking, and
collaboration; have an established history for
developing organizational leaders.
• Experience working with Boards of Directors,
managing Board relations and coordinating
committee activities.
• Established, strong relationships with national
funders.
• Strong sense of humility; evidence of working
in a collaborative environment.
• Impeccable business acumen.
• Strong customer service and work ethic,
demonstrate commitment to quality and the ability
to adapt to and a preference for rapid
organizational change.
• Ability to travel 10% of time.
• A passion for building the health system for
and increasing the health of Coloradans.
• Success thriving in challenging environments.
• Outcomes based with a strong appreciation for
data and results.

• Decisive leadership skills and professional

governments to the table.
• Proven track record in managing and developing
highly motivated, well educated professionals.
