Statistics Manager

The Statistics Manager will be responsible for 
managing the objectives, operations and staff of 
a Statistics team, which consists of at least 6 
Statisticians at various levels. The Statistics 
Manager will provide consultation and review of 
statistical plans, clinical protocols and 
reports; provide leadership and support in the 
use of efficient and appropriate statistical 
methods for the Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm and 
Disease Management Clinical organization. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures adequate training for employees; 
develops employees and evaluates their 
performance; has authority to hire, terminate, 
and promote employees.
• Provides statistical leadership and guidance 
for the clinical department.
• Accomplishes results through the management of 
statisticians and through cross-functional 
partnerships with study teams, data management 
teams and investigators.
• Applies statistical and clinical trial 
knowledge and experience to: 
(1) Oversee the design and development of 
clinical studies, ensuring that study objectives 
have been properly specified and can be met. 
(2) Critically review and approve study 
protocols, analysis plans, and reports and 
submissions to regulatory agencies.
(3) Provide assistance to study team in 
responding to questions from FDA.
• Leads and participates in department and 
corporate working groups to develop standards and 
templates, and to refine and implement clinical 
and statistical processes and process 
improvements.
• Responsible for statistical resource planning 
for clinical projects and for the Annual 
Operating Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters degree in Statistics or Biostatistics
• 9+ years experience in the design, execution, 
data management, analysis and reporting of 
clinical trials.
• 5+ years industry experience with devices 
and/or pharmaceuticals.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing 
clinical trials.
• Experience with employee development (e.g. 
coaching, mentoring), talent acquisition, 
performance management, conflict resolution 
and/or providing work direction to team.
• Demonstration of excellent oral and written 
communication skills.
• Highly-developed interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD in Biostatistics or Statistics
• 2+ years of supervisory experience
• Exceptional problem solving skills, strong oral 
and written communications skills and excellent 
interpersonal skills.
• Experience leading complex projects and project 
teams. 
• Device industry experience including PMA and 
IDE submissions.
• Demonstrated ability to execute effectively to 
achieve business results through motivating and 
holding individuals accountable to deliverables.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively and 
persuasively communicate verbally and in writing; 
ability to actively promote the timely and candid 
exchange of information and viewpoints; 
demonstrated active listening skills.
