New Postpartum Depression Therapy Group

We are pleased to announce Fairview Counseling Center has joined in a collaborative effort with Fairview Birth and Family Education and Support Services in developing a group therapy for women experiencing post partum depression.  This first group will meet at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview Riverside.  If there is sufficient interest, additional groups will be started in other geographical areas.

Wednesdays 10 – 11:30 AM ongoing

University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview

  Group Benefits:

  • Weekly psychosocial education about postpartum depression and treatment
  • Spouse/partner involvement and education
  • Monitoring and management of symptoms
  • Support from other mothers
  • Resource and referral information
  • Coordination with their care team (medical and behavioral health)

  Screening Criteria:

  • Symptoms of postpartum depression and/or anxiety
  • No diagnosis of chronic mental illness, chemical dependency or psychosis
  • No active risk to self or baby
  • Time commitment of  8 weeks
  • English speaking
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) screening is optional

As of August 1st, we will begin accepting referrals for intake appointments.

Babies may accompany their mothers to all appointments and group sessions.
