Meet the Biomedical Discovery District

The University of Minnesota’s Biomedical Discovery District (BDD) is a complex of buildings on the Twin Cities campus designed to enable researchers from across the University’s health sciences to work side by side.

The BDD is a key driver of scientific discovery, and it plays a significant role in helping Minnesota remain a leader in bioscience industry.

The BDD is the result of a major public/private partnership approved by the Minnesota state legislature in 2008. It allowed for nearly $300 million in investment to develop these buildings.

Today these facilities are:

  • Encouraging collaboration between research teams, leading to new directions for promising research
  • Allowing the University to attract top talent from around the country to come to Minnesota
  • Helping researcher teams compete for additional federal research grants
  • Serving as an incubator for new ideas and products that will grow Minnesota’s economy.
